So to try and replace the AvTech I've installed iVMS-4200 Client and Storage server on a 'retired' Windows 10 PC/file server located in the Barn - which is where most of the cameras are/will be - to keep an eye on livestock etc. I can view the IpCam using IE, iVMS-4500 (Android Tablet) and the iVMS-4200 Client software. This works well - I'm very impressed with the picture quality (over the analogue cameras) - even though its only 720p. I just want to try and recreate what AvTech DVR gave me:Ĭontinuous real time capture + motion detector 'events' logging, so I can look at the recorded timeline and see motion events flagged (shown in red) and skip easily and quickly to see what triggered the event.Ī few years back I purchased 4 Hikvison DS-2CD2012-I cameras - but didn't get round to fitting or positioning them, apart from one over the front door. Right click a blank area on your desktop, select create new, then "link to application, give new icon a Name, like "Motion - Start", click on "Applications" tab, enter a description, and on the Command line enter "Monitor", and click ok.I'm 'transitioning' from an elderly AvTech analogue DVR/camera setup that has run without hitch for several years - to an IpCam system. I didn't want the Motion software to start when my system starts, even though you can do that, so I also created a new desktop icon, link to application, for starting Motion as well. If anyone has an easier way, I'd love to know about it too. This is for those of you running Motion in "daemon", always on, mode, otherwise you can just close the Terminal window that you are running Motion in to exit the program. Right click a blank area on your desktop, select create new, then "link to application, give new icon a Name, like "Motion - Exit/Close", click on "Applications" tab, enter a description, and on the Command line enter "killall -9 motion", and click ok. I created a new desktop icon, link to application, with those commands entered on the command line with a title "Motion - Exit/Close" and it works. Simple way to exit or close the Motion software, you can bring up your console terminal and type in: This was a real pain to find a simple way to close or exit the really nice Linux Motion software, rather than rebooting / restarting your computer, or bringing up System Montitor Processes and highlighting all Motion entries and right clicking to end those tasks. The Monitor program is available in the Linux Software Manager or at their website: There is another program "Motion" that is much easier to setup and works well too. Zoneminder is awesome, but can be difficult to set up, but it is worth it. Saw this post, and thought I would share some information. I'm not sure about installing WINE to see if it will work. It's a shame, because "IP Camera Tool" works so sweet on Windows. I'm ready to give up and create several browser links for the Hootoo Security cameras I have. I really think me too! Have you ever looked at "Motion" or "WXCAM" which are both Ubuntu supported. PS: they have a pretty extensive table of camera and their individual settings.linked somewhere in that page I posted. Well, partly I was curious about using that software on this Astak camera, but the setup etc for zoneminder are more than I want to deal with. Shows you where executable programs are located - you don't need to enter paths for these, tho you might if you custom-install something into your "Download" directory, which isn't in your $PATH.įlemur wrote: Thanks for all the assistance, Flemur. * I just installed "AlsaModularSynth" (didn't work) its executable was called "ams". Should give command line usage (sometimes both work, sometimes neither.). Will show you where it is (should be the same thing you see in the "bin" file list). (zm = possible name for "zoneminder"*) in the list of software files.Īnd it should do something (you shouldn't need the entire /usr/bin/zm)** or It'd be nice if the installers gave a little more info.but it's there, just not real easy to find - below. There might even be a "recently installed" category. I don't use menus much, but installers usually put entries in the (system/programs) menu you might poke around in the appropriate menu categories.
